President's Message — Natalie Jambazian, LMFT

Bringing Humanity to the World

Dear SFV-CAMFT Members,

Amid the chaos we have been witnessing and experiencing the violence in this world. It has definitely been an overwhelming time. As I write this message on June 1st, 2020, I am overfilled with sadness. I hope we can continue to remain united and bring some humanity into the world. As therapists, we have the potential to provide a safe space to discuss important topics such as anti-racism. We can continue to fight against racial injustice in the world and support our black community and the black lives matter movement. Furthermore, we can implement change in our society, culture and around the world. Our organization continues to remain optimistic and looks forward to the recovery and stability of spreading love and remaining hopeful.

We have a couple new support groups we are implementing. We started our Therapist of Color Virtual Support Group facilitated by Shawn Laré, which meets weekly on Wednesdays from 6:00pm-7:30pm and co-facilitated by our President Elect, Mishka Kimball. We are also continuing our Virtual Support Group facilitated by Rena Pollack, meeting weekly on Fridays from 9:00am-9:50am. Last but certainly not least, we have our existing Pre-licensed Virtual Weekly Support Group facilitated by our pre-licensed representative, Nicolette Gubicza, each Thursday from 6:30pm-8:30pm, providing support and resources for associates. Supervisors spread the word to your associates about this free resource and member benefit. Please take advantage of these groups as we all need support during these unprecedented times.

It has been a challenging yet fulfilling role as president. We are halfway through the year and I have learned so much during my term and feel I have grown in so many ways. As we adjust to the new trend of holding events virtually, I want to thank the Board for their tireless work and dedication. Personally and professionally, we all are impacted by current events. I am also sending my deepest gratitude to all who volunteer their time in by working to make this organization run as smoothly and effectively as possible. We acknowledge our volunteers every month by highlighting them on our social media platforms. Please reach out to me directly if you are interested in volunteer opportunities as we are always looking to fulfill roles. Additionally, we have wonderful opportunities if you are interested in joining our 2021 Board of Directors. We encourage you to take on a leadership role as an SFV-CAMFT Board member.

We continue to provide CEU credits each month virtually with important educational topics and remarkable speakers. We also have our new member, social networking event coming up in August. Please join us in continuing to make connections.

Hoping you and your families are staying safe and healthy.

In solidarity,
Natalie Jambazian
President
