SFV-CAMFT Facebook Group Terms of Use and Guidelines

(secret — members only)

This group is provided as a service and membership benefit of The San Fernando Valley Chapter of California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (SFV-CAMFT). It is intended to allow licensed and pre-licensed community members to communicate with each other about professional matters. The purpose is to be a safe and comfortable environment through which members connect, be a useful and productive tool for working and learning together, and build on our sense of community. To ensure this, all members must agree to the following Terms of Use and Guidelines. Please read the following information and then indicate your understanding and agreement by liking this pinned post.

Behavior
I will act responsibly and respectfully towards all participants in the group, respecting their values and viewpoints as well as their rights and feelings. I will work with other members to ensure that it remains welcoming to new participants and ideas, and embraces diversity. Acknowledging that differences of opinion and conflict will undoubtedly occur, I agree to resolve conflict constructively. I understand that every member of this group is entering into this same agreement and that we all have a stake in seeing that it is observed and enforced. My behavior towards other members of the group will reflect that I am abiding by this agreement.

  • BE RESPECTFUL Treat other members with respect. Do not challenge or attack others. The discussions in this group are meant to stimulate conversation, not to create contention. Let others have their say, just as you may. All defamatory, abusive, profane, threatening, offensive, or illegal materials are strictly prohibited. Do not post anything in this group that you would not want the world to see or that you would not want anyone to know came from you.

  • CLIENT CONFIDENTIALITY Members can post inquiries about referrals any day during the week, but please note: DO NOT share any details about clients such as age, location, specific quotes, etc. Focus on the services you need, e.g., “I’m looking for a therapist who works with adolescents and the LGBT community in West LA” instead of “I need a referral for a 16-year-old client who lives in Santa Monica and wants help coming out to her parents.” Keep it brief and safe. Also, our Referral Requests system is a more reliable/valid form of requesting such information. It reaches approx. 2500 subscribers. Members can also post practice management questions such as “Where can I get a call button system?” or clinical consultations and case discussion inquires any day during the week, but please note: DO NOT tie it to current client work, instead ask general questions about resources and interventions such as “Does anyone use hypnosis in their practice? How has this helped?” or “What professional or self-help books work would you recommend using for/with grief and loss in adults?”

Subject Matter
I understand and agree that any and all discussions that I initiate and/or participate in will be related only to topics best suited to this medium, and related to the field of Marriage and Family Therapy. I understand and agree that questions requiring a consultation on a legal, ethical, business or practice concern should be posed to a state CAMFT staff member by telephone and will not be responded to via this group. I understand that relying upon information posted in this group is at my sole discretion and risk. I understand that I will be responsible for editing incorrect information or deleting my own unwanted posts. I understand and agree that there are larger rules governing behavior and content via State CAMFT and the Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS).

  • ADVERTISING/MARKETING Members can post workshops, groups, jobs, office space, etc. any day during the week, but please note: this group is used to make announcements of your own services, not services of others or products unrelated to the profession, i.e., skin care product or bookkeeping services. Do not post information on behalf of someone else, in particular if a non-member. Please use caution when discussing products and services and be mindful of what’s being posted not competing with existing chapter events as well as use of chapter related names/materials. Such information is subject to removal by the manager of this group. We have paid email blast (eblast) advertising as a better option, which reaches over 2500 subscribers. Use caution when discussing products and services. Do not post any information or other material protected by copyright without the permission of the copyright owner. By posting material, the posting party warrants and represents that he or she owns the copyright with respect to such material or has received permission from the copyright owner. In addition, the posting party grants members of the group the nonexclusive right to display, copy, publish, share, distribute, transmit, print, and use such information or other material.

Administrative
I understand and agree that the group is not a place to dialogue, or conduct business, with the SFV-CAMFT Board of Directors. I understand that SFV-CAMFT in no way endorses and accepts no responsibility for any opinion, information, product, or service posted within this group by members. I understand this group is for active members of SFV-CAMFT. I understand that these terms of use may be changed or updated at any time by the SFV-CAMFT Board of Directors. I acknowledge that if the SFV-CAMFT Board of Directors, or a duly authorized body of my peers concludes that I have repeatedly and willfully violated this agreement, my rights to participate in the group and have posts shown can be terminated and deleted.

  • COMMUNICATIONS This group is managed and regularly moderated by our Advertising Chair and/or our VP of Marketing. Do not send administrative messages such as “remove me from the list”, through this group. Instead, if you wish to be removed, have concerns or general questions about these guidelines, you can remove yourself within the settings on your own or find the appropriate contact information via our website (www.sfvcamft.org/contact). Reporting can also be done by clicking on the small arrow on the top right of any post (in case the moderator has not already seen it, this will inform them privately and will quickly take care of the matter). You will need to ask a member for his/her personal email address to communicate outside this group. You can do so by tagging the individual in the post and asking for a PM (private message).

  • MEMBERSHIP We ask that you make a good effort to keep your membership active, but know your participation in this group will not be restricted if your membership has lapsed or you wish not to renew at this time. Please do not add other people to this group; the moderator will regularly update this group with members (active at the time of or after group creation). If non-members want to be more informed, they can like our public page (www.facebook.com/sfvcamft) or if they want to become members, they can register online (www.sfvcamft.org/online-registration). Please also remember not to post on a non-member’s behalf.
