Shelley G. Horner, LMFT
"Healing Attachment Wounds from Childhood"
Presented in-Person and on Zoom (Webinar)
In this workshop participants will explore our emotional childhood wounds that can impact our attachment. Helping clients uncover their wounds and identify unmet needs can begin the journey toward processing one’s injuries and discover various avenues to work toward healing. This is a viable process for assisting our clients to articulate their need and desires in intimate relationships. Psychologist power couple, Harold and Helen Harville, believe we bring to our adult relationships that which needs healing. The key to success in healing is awareness and communication. Following this presentation, participants will be able to better walk alongside clients who present with such wounds.
In the process participants will identify the hurts using a series of questions. Those individuals who feel comfortable sharing their discoveries may do so or attendees may choose not to share as it is not mandatory to do so.
In successfully completing and attending this presentation, participants will be able to:
1. Identify two themes from childhood injuries.
2. Explain how childhood psychological injuries can impact current
client behavior and relationships.
3. Assist clients in identifying their needs and create a plan to experience more positive relationships.
Presenter:
Shelley Horner, LMFT, has been in private practice for over 25 years. Prior to earning her license, she was a school counselor. Before that, she was a performer, working as an actor, musician and dancer. Shelley brings her play into therapy to help clients break through barriers. Role-play is a useful vehicle to experiment with different responses. Changing communication patterns can enhance relationships. Connecting to the self as well as to people in your life is crucial for in-depth relationships.
Shelley has been writing the SFVCAMFT “Member Highlights” for several years. She enjoys getting to know therapists so she can capture their essence through the written word.
Additionally, Shelley has also worked on the SFVCAMFT board as a member-at-large. She began to understand how the board serves chapter members and gained a deeper appreciation of the board.
Another hat Shelley has worn is that of a professional speaker for a health company as well as EAP (Employee Assistance Program) companies. Topics under her belt have ranged from “Emotional Intelligence in the Workplace “to” Anger Management.” Shelley likes educating people to improve their communication skills. By meeting them at their workplace, she can help people who may never go to therapy. Her acting background enhances her psycho-education skills.
Shelley has written a continuing education course as well as created a video on communication for couples and continues to facilitate a plethora of group workshops to help clients heal trauma from childhood.
